DIY: Personalized Cookie Cutters
Bored of the usual cookie cutters you see? Then make a personalized cookie cutter from scratch. You can make a one of a kind cookie cutters from items found in your local hardware store.Items required is aluminum flashing. (Note: the heavier the gauge the stronger your cookie cutter is but it will be harder to bend)available in any hardware store but ask the clerk if it will be safe for food handling some kinds are not safe since they are treated with chemicals. The design or shape you want to do for the cookie cutter. A ruler or any straight edged object. Scissors or if you decide to get a heavier gauge of aluminum for a long lasting cookie cutter get tin snips (scissors for aluminum tins). Get a knife or sharp instrument to mark the aluminum. Buy a ball of twine. Buy a pair or a set of clips that can be used in hanging clothes the small ones can do. Last is the Adhesive and make sure its non-toxic.For you to make the cookie cutter mold, Take the twine and follow all the outlines of the design or shape you want. Once you have outlined everything cut twine. After you have done this use the twine to measure the aluminum flashing that is for the length. Next is the width of the cookie cutter. Don’t make it too wide. Estimated you can do approximately 1½ to 2 inches. Then cut the aluminum using the scissors or the tin snips you bought if you used a heavier gauged aluminum. Begin bending the aluminum flashing with needle nose pliers. For smaller curves you can use dowels or pencils contouring it to the shape or design you want to create. Rub in a small amount of adhesive to the ends of the cutter don’t forget to overlap at least an inch. Put on the clip or clamp and allow to dry. Once dry, wash your cookie cutter before use. Then create personalized cookies with your DIY cookie cutters.
